Having vacationed on Mount Desert Island for many years, we were floored by the August crowds. We have never been here in July or August and now I know why. Eagle Lake was as busy as we have ever seen it. Even with rain clouds forming, the carriage roads were busy. The lake was low and exposed many interesting rock formations.

The aquatic flowers were just amazing against the gray skies.

Headed to the quiet side of the island and rode the Long Pond Fire Road to Long Pond. The magic of this peaceful lake was highlighted by the cries of the loons in the early morning light.
