Main Fork Rock Creek Rd

Red Lodge, MT

July 11, 2012

We had the pleasure of exploring another Forest Service Road in the Custer National Forest.  FSR 2024 is also known as the Main Fork Rock Creek Road.  This road was rough and bumpy but very scenic.  I know we would  recommend it anyone looking for a scenic drive in Montana.  The road follows Rock Creek to its headwaters near the border to the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness Area.

The creek had many beautiful cascades as it flowed from 8,500 ft down to 5,555.  This one had a particularly lovely view.

This is Quadruple Peak.  I know it has an old story but I can’t locate just now.

This is a view of the Absaroka Beartooth Range.  The road ends about 1.5 miles from (8,400 ft) this point in a lovely valley with many snow melt streams and waterfalls. It was heaven on earth to take in this fabulous landscape.
