Exploring the Gila National Wilderness and Cliff Dwellings

On beautiful deep blue sky day, we drove 45 miles on the Mountain Spirit Trail into the Gila National Forest and Wilderness area to the Gila Cliff Dwellings.  Climbing into the forest with patches of snow, we took a deep breath of fresh high mountain air.  Crossed the Continental Divide at 7,080 ft elevation.  Brad and I hiked the one mile trail up to the cliff dwellings.  It was a sobering and eerie feeling to imagine how the Mogollon Indians lived and prospered in these steep cliff dwellings (circa 1290 AD).

The Big Lagoon on Pensacola Bay

The boardwalk over Long Pond

Camping at Big Lagoon State Park on Pensacola Bay.  We are meeting a very old friend that we have not seen in years.  Exploring Big Lagoon, Perdido Key and Gulf Islands National Seashore are all possibilities.

Atlantis launch was awesome!

Atlantis Launch  As we sat on the Jetty at Port Canaveral, the sound and brilliant light from the shuttle launch will always be remembered.   It was truly an experience of a lifetime.  Pic is courtesy of NASA.  I was too busy watching the launch to photograph it.  Now when is the next launch…..  I have posted a pic of the Jetty Park fishing pier on Port Canaveral where we watched the launch.
